Man, they're doing a number on Colossus there.

Something about this phrase reminded me that I had not yet added this piece to the Character Count chart. This brings Wolverine closer to being the first to have FOUR lines on the Chart, with only he and the Thing currently having three.

Still surprises me that Batman is lagging so far behind!

It may have been my off-brand use of the word "number", JB.

I just thought I would chime in and post something about which specific figures in this one I was most impressed with and I quickly realized I would end up listing them all!  2011 is off to a great start with commissions!  This one is an early candidate for Commission of the Year!  =0)

Another masterpiece for William. JB has a knack for capturing the essence of the original cover while at the same time creating something different. Marvelous!

The subject is inspired, congrats to William Roberge.

It's undeniably a recent JB piece as evidenced by a few details like the
more svelte Nightcrawler than either DC or JB drew early on. JB's
current approach to hands with splayed fingers is also clear.

The five-year-old fan within looks at Storm and Colossus' face, in
particular, along with the whole piece and finds it feels like JB's iconic
X-Men. I've seen commissions from a range of artists strongly
identified with certain characters and often they can't click the
nostalgia switch.

So, if I'm reading it correctly, Shooter's "policy" put the "money shot" on the cover, and this was bad because it gave away the surprise too soon?

"JB's current approach to hands with splayed fingers is also clear."

I've noticed spread fingers with kinked knuckles, Colossus' hand in this piece,
are much more common in your work now than 20 or 30 yrs ago.

I thumbed through some of your Uncanny X-Men and FF runs to see if my
mind was playing tricks on me. Generally speaking, those issues did feature
more fists and fingers together and not splayed hands. However, I came across
a few hands similar to those in the commission.
