The police are deployed there for several reasons, one of which [historically] shows us that when large groups of [potentially] unruly people converge, a small but highly organized percentage of them take that opportunity to inflict damage to both people & property. These actions virtually defeat the concept of "free" assembly. Think the local store owners whose business is suffering might also have a stake in that? Think the people that have to clean up the subsequent mess might have something to say about that? YOUR rights to free speech & assembly should be considered sacrosanct; what about my rights though?

Given that the middle class and upper middle class has shrunk in size over the past 30 years, it's not at all clear that the OWS "kids today" have a lot of things (besides the draft) easier than the Vietnam "kids back then."

with me that makes me a ... rapist? Really?
It won't prevent me from enjoying my old copies of
Daredevil but he's being kind of an asshole!

Regarding "rapists," I think Frank Miller might have been referring to an arrest for the rape of a woman at Occupy Philadelphia.

Not unless you are actually a member/participant in one of these "Occupy" events. And a specific member, at that. Frank is, of course, way out of line in his assessment, but in this case, it's not like professional football. You don't get to sit in your armchair in front of you TV, watch your favorite team seize the victory, and then talk about how "we" won.

All well and good but why the need for tear gas and rubber bullets? Why are police picking on people who are not causing trouble?

Why are police picking on people who are not causing trouble?•• You can argue against the police response -- which has be varied from place to place and even day to day -- but it is the ultimate distortion to say the Occupy protester are "not causing trouble". Ask the shop owners around Wall Street, who have nothing to do with the brokerages but whose businesses were severely and negatively impacted, if the protesters were "not causing trouble". This is, in fact, my single greatest problem with the "Occupy" groups -- the "collateral damage". Consider the millions cities are having to spend just to CLEAN UP after these protests. Taxpayer dollars well spent?

I just don't see these slurs against large groups of
people as productive. Not every Tea Party activist is a
racist redneck and all the Occupy Wall Street protesters
are not a bunch of thieves and rapists. I know he didn't
say each and every one of them were all these things but
he's certainly painting his image of these people with
very broad strokes (sorry for the clumsy art metaphor).
Frank Miller is entitled to his opinion - I just don't
share it.
