I've spent a few days coloring this piece and it was a blast.

••

Enjoy! But please take note of the rules in our Forum Decorum list, especially this one:

• Do Not post colored versions of JB's black and white art.

I'm in the queue for the start of 2012 but these "Just for the X" and "Just for the Heck" of it pieces are making it hard to wait!

JB, now you need to do a Jonah Hex piece so you can title it "Just for the Hex of it"!  =0)

That's not Abomination, that's Colossus.

A little more tinkering, out of curiosity.

Altho the distinctive mask certainly makes Wolverine look more like himself, I can't help but feel it somehow subtracts from the overall effect of the piece.

Just a real quick game of can you spot the difference...

To my untrained eye: one extra black/white rung on the cape-wing for Banshee and the iconic Wolverine face mask (awesome, but I actually do dig the retro feel to Wolverine in the original image).

I agree with JB. The distinctive Wolverine cowl definitely defeats the
point of the exercise.

I like them both, but I am leaning towards the distinctive mask - it's such a part of him that it just looks right.  Maybe it's because I'm used to it.

I find myself returning again and again in my mind to the question of just how "recognizable" these characters are, removed from their more familiar costumes. Especially Wolverine. It's puzzling (and, to an artist, somewhat troubling) that some of you would suggest he needs that distinctive mask and/or claws in order to look like himself.

Consider: if I had posted only this…

…and said it was one of the "new" X-Men . . .   who else could it be??
