Am I paranoid or Sasquatch has his (great beats) "crazy" eyes ? Whereas Namor has such a "noble" posture...

Great all-in rush anyway, with a hairy frontline !!!

Was there ever a group that artists struggled so much to draw on model as Alpha Flight?

Mike Mignola was sort of all right, but take him and JB out of the equation and nobody else seemed to be able to get them right.

I agree, there seems to be characters that have such a strong voice from the creator that it seems hard for anyone to hit those notes again.  Alpha Flight, Dark Phoenix (among other JB creations), along with Miller's Elektra have suffered with others having their "take" on the characters.

…Dark Phoenix (among other JB creations)…

••

I don't feel entirely comfortable calling Dark Phoenix my "creation". She had many fathers. Dave Cockrum, obviously, who designed the original Phoenix costume. Steven Grant, who suggested making her a villain. Chris Claremont, who coined the name "Dark Phoenix". My contribution was mostly suggesting the mechanism by which Phoenix could be "corrupted". More of an act of extrapolation than genuine creation.

There are certain people who draw certain characters best. I think for instance that Jack Kirby did Ben Grimm better than anyone and Steve Ditko's Dr. Strange couldn't be outdone. Alpha Flight perhaps because you created them never looked "correct" when done by other people, and no one can draw Wolverine better than you.
Excellent Commission!

*sigh*  Alpha Flight #1 came out when I was finishing my 12th grade finals and one final was a paper on comic books.  I, of course, used AF#1 as a reference.  Of course I also got swept up in the issue itself as I have with MANY of John's books. *sigh*

This is my first post. Shawn's response dragged me out of lurkdom. I, also, check in here daily, and have for years.I look forward to the commissions most of all.  I have been a fan since my first JB book, X-MEN #136. This commission makes me remember finding ALPHA FLIGHT #1 in a convenience store while on vacation in Florida when I was a kid. I can describe the store in every detail, but am sure I would have forgotten it the next day if not for the excitement of that find.
I appreciate this forum, and will generally leave it to you guys who do this better than I do. That being said, because of the earlier knucklehead, I just wanted to say "Thanks, JB" and thanks to the forum members who make this place an interesting and enjoyable daily stop for me.
