Micronauts was my crossover book between Marvel's licensed comics and their super-heroes. I had just started reading Micronauts when Dr. Doom was the villain of the month. The public library had a Fantastic Four book with the reintroduction of the Sub-Mariner, the first three-part Galactus story, and the final issue of the Dr. Doom story based on the Prisoner tv show. Dr. Doom became a favorite villain like Darth Vader and Baron Karza which is fitting considering Doom inspired Vader who inspired Karza. JB had just started working on the Fantastic Four. I tried two issues, the ones with Skip Collins and the birth of Crystal's daughter. They were OK, but nowhere in the same league as the stories in the Stan Lee, Jack Kirby collection at the library. Then JB did the two-part follow-up story where Doom regains control of Latveria. The double-sized issue with Spider-Man, Captain America and the X-Skrulls followed a few months later. I picked up a few more recent back issues including the 20th anniversary and read the book until JB left which coincidentally was when Marvel cancelled Micronauts and lost the license to Star Wars. So if you had any say in letting Dr. Doom be loaned out to the Micronauts title, thank you. If not, thank you for your Fantastic Four work which got me to read super-hero comics regularly.
