I am such as an asshole that I think JB's Forth World was better than the original. It was easier to get into and understand. I am not that much into the era of the time that I wrote about earlier here and JB had a different approach to the same thing keeping everything intact and I very much appreciated that. So I think it was a lot better. Both the Superman connection in the Superman comics and The Fourth World.

What I think is most impressive about Kirby's DC characters is that they FEEL like DC characters. Big Barda, Orion, Mr. Miracle, Darkseid... they *belong* in a universe with Superman rather than one with Spider-Man.
I also like that Kirby is the creator of DC's greatest villain, Darkseid... though it's unfortunate that so much mischief is done to him. I suppose it's too easy to say that Darkseid is the Devil but approaching him that way would surely avoid having him embroiled in a slugfest with Superman. After all, would you really depict Superman fighting it out with Satan?

I think Kirby would be proud.
That's the best compliment I can give.

All the mucking about DC has done with the New Gods, and Darkseid in particular, springs directly from what I was saying about an inability to simply accept Kirby's creations for what they are. No need to recast Darkseid as the Devil. That's a whole different story. Of course, DC has lately become embarrasingly Fundamentalist, shoring up its "universe" with heaping helpings of Christian mythology. The Phantom Stranger is really Judas? Please!

I really like this since Mr Miracle is one of my favorite characters -- but what is he doing with his left hand?

Sometimes I think simplicity is the key.
I, personally, don't need Two-Face having a retconned mental disorder or any number of things. Keeping things simple can sometimes be the most effective thing to do.

Scott is posing for John Byrne, so he's holding his cape in an awesome billowing-cape position!
