Not overly familiar with these characters, but love Black Terror & the Robot. Especially the Robot. Well done.

...ok, typical moment of idiocy - I totally forgot that these heroes are now in the public domain.
In other words, my 'complaint' that "we'll never be able to see this as an actual comic" was actually unfounded - unlike similar cool ideas with Marvel/DC heroes, JB could easily take a handful of such characters, and do a series with them at IDW.
That would be beyond cool - I'd happily make space in my comic budget for such a book now, on the off-chance it becomes a reality in the fullness of time! Egads - the possibilities, the possibilities...

Don't know how Canadian copyright law works and how that would affect Nelvanna. However, the Black Terror is not totally public domain. His and a few of the other Nedor/Standard/Better heroes had their first couple of issues registered and renewed by Popular Library, the pulp arm of Ned Pines' publishing business. Which was sold to Fawcett and made its way into CBS, Inc umbrella who renewed some of the pulps by Popular Library as well as some of the later Fawcett Captain Marvel comics. And, then they were bought out by Warner Communications.
Despite this, no one seems to have been interested in enforcing any of those copyrights as Black Terror, Doc Strange, and the Fighting Yank have been used by multiple companies over the past couple of decades with no hint of lawsuit. Black Terror alone has been at AC Comics, Eclipse, DC, and one issue with Leadslinger and will be seen soon again at Dynamite in their "Masks" miniseries.

Rick, many of those characters are appearing in Dynamite
Entertainment's PROJECT SUPERPOWERS lead by Alex Ross. If
you're desperate for stories using these characters, they exist. Be
careful, if you're looking for a scenario like JB's commission, you might
be a little disappointed. Personally, I think JB is much better suited for
a book like this.

Check out what's on the Grim Reaper's cape.•• That skull and crossbones is about the only thing on the Reaper's costume that invokes any kind of "darkness" such as one might associate with the name. Purple cape, white shirt. What WAS the designer thinking, I wonder?

Neat stuff...I had a similar idea for some of these older Nedor characters, particularly the Black Terror.

Stephen - yeah, I remember seeing the Alex Ross thing announced years back.
...my point still stands!
(chalk that up as another thing I like about this commish - none of the characters are modelled on the same chunky middle-aged guy in a home-made costume, standing around in 'model sheet' poses with an expression of boredom...)

Yeah, it seems like 50 years after death of creator, or in the case of a corporation, 50 yeas after it goes kaput.
Corus Entertainment and the National Archives of Canada claim copyright on her comics though.

Seeing this cover I wish the Invaders could have team up with the characters on this cover. The retro look with the giant robots remind me of all the lost possibilities in the Invaders series in the 70's. As much as I liked the Frank Robbins art, it sometimes was unnerving to see all the characters bounce on the page like they were made of rubber. I knew Robbins was going for look of the Milton Caniff style of art. However Caniff's figures in action were nothing like Robbins.
