Once you draw the perspective grid, where do you start on a character? I'm thinking it must be at the feet for the character to be "grounded".

Other end. Except in very rare circumstances, I start with a quick oval for the head.

I don't know how I missed this when first posted. It's spectacular!

Amazing, in describing commission quality to people, I would often state they were cover quality.  I don't think that is true, this is a step, no a leap above that.

This is a really beautiful piece, JB.

I mentioned before on this forum a while back that I always felt your run on the FF, which I'm sure no one at the time could realize would be regarded as seminal, ended with a whimper and not the bang it deserved.

If you still have anything to say with these characters, I hope that somehow, eventually, you'll decide to say it.

I agree. And perhaps if the Superman assignment had not happened, that might have been the case. But despite being wished good luck by Mike Hobson, my plan to continue on the FF as I also did Superman proved naive. Shooter began a major assault on FF -- it was at this time that the Return of Jean Grey, fully vetted and approved by him, became "unacceptable" and had to be rewritten and redrawn -- and the editor's life became constant hell. Simply not worth the grief, I figured, for anyone, and so I took my leave.

I'd been planning to take a break from drawing the book, continuing as writer only, so the departure was not quite such a lurch for me as it could have been.

When the time comes, this will be my vote for my favorite commission of the year. It has everything! The art, the story, the art!

You are a good man, William!

Even though as many times as I have said "best of the year" or "best ever" it seems that JB tops it!

Came across a website the other day where a poster was discussing some of the commissions I have posted here. They are everything from terrible to terrific, he (?) noted -- tho of course did not bother to identify which pieces fell into which category!

Courtesy to the commissioner? I highly doubt it but it is the only thing I can think of that would fit.
