Boxing announcer voice:

"Ladies and gentlemen, the still undefeated Wolverine drawing champion of the world....John Byrne!"

Yup. No Hugh Jackman 'pretty boy' action going on here!

••

Years ago, there was an article in TV GUIDE about Faith Ford, who was at that time one of the regulars on MURPHY BROWN. It mentioned that her co-stars called her "Swamp Thing," due to her Bayou background. At the time I thought "And this is, of course, because of the award winning comic book series, and not the crappy movies and TV series. . . . "

Now, every time I hear someone mention Wolverine (as recently on an episode of VEEP), I find a similar thought flitting thru my brain. There's a character out there, in the comics, called Wolverine, and most people who know the name haven't even seen him!*

__________

* Sadly, this includes most people reading the comics!

I think this struck me about another commission awhile
back, but there's something really JRJr-ish going on with
Logan's face here.

Great craggy details on the face -- reminds somehow of Patrick Troughton's face. Wolverine on the big screen really should have been played by a character actor, not a leading man.

Your Wolverine, already definitive, gets better and better.

This is absolutely amazing. JB, you draw the best Wolverine by far. I'd
have loved to have seen you do a long solo run with him. I think it
would have been great!

There are a lot of people who could make a cool Wolverine action shot, but I can't think of anyone else who could make even close to such a cool Wolverine *character* shot.

Even after seeing JB draw Wolverine after so many times, he can still make the character seem fresh and interesting. Now that's something.

Great piece!
