I don't remember Superboxers but I did like his artwork on The Thing and Marvel Two in one. He was great at drawing bodybuilder type guys that looked like they belonged in the comic universe. The Annual he did that was like a Gladiator type fight with The Champion was one of the best of the Thing's series at the time. I also think he had a way with some of the nice quiet moments, one that comes to mind is the reconciliation with Ben and an old girlfriend who had been disfigured. That one had real emotional depth to me as a kid.

I couldn't get anyone to tell me HOW Ron's art was "bad," It just WAS. ************ I was never a big fan of his work, but I wouldn't have called it bad.

Ron Wilson drew one of my favorite childhood comics - Marvel Two-In-One Annual 7 - so he is good in my book.

I was looking at Ron`s art on Google Images(Nope, still can`t fault his work) and came across this,it will be familiar to U.K. members,a precursor to J.B.`s FF issue in landscape format!,although to be honest the interior was awful as they crammed 2 normal format pages onto one page side by side, reducing the images far too much for enjoyment.

Much in the same way that I couldn't properly appreciate Kirby when I was a twelve-year-old, I also didn't 'get' Wilson. But I sure as hell do, now.

It was through Ron Wilson's artwork that I learned just what an inker did. I loved the first issues of Wolfpack, inked by Kyle Baker. The rest of the series, inked by Akin & Garvey (I think) didn't have that same impact.
Pair him with Baker, John Byrne, Joe Sinnott, Hilary Barta, or somebody who really meshes well with his style, and his work's great. An average inker drags his work down considerably.

"JB, Ron just had the misfortune of drawing characters you made your own. You can be a tough act to follow."****
I think this guy's onto something. It was tough to look at the Thing and co. drawn by anybody else concurrent with your run on Fantastic Four. Generally, I can't get into comics that are scripted by JB but draw by someone else.

===== Yeah, it can be hard on to get into a book JB wrote with someone else doing the art. But over the years, he's had some great artists work on his books... Ron Wilson Ron Garney Lee Weeks Jerry Ordway Mike Mignola

I liked Ron Wilson's depiction of the Thing a great deal, as I did Joe Sinnot's inks on that character. I do think, however, that Ben Grimm aside, Sinnot was not quite the right fit for Wilson's pencils, though they were paired up frequently.
I realize that after Stan and Jack, Joe is probably "Mr. FF". He gave those characters their familiar, distinctive and consistent looks through many years of rotating pencillers. However, I feel that unlike John Byrne, George Perez, and Rich Buckler, to name a few, Wilson's work became too tied to Sinnot's inks.
I much preferred Armando Gil's infrequent inks on Ron Wilson's pencils. Gill provided a more modern, sketchlike quality that worked to Wilson's advantaget as evidenced in those few pages from Marvel Two in One Annual #7.

Finished reading Super Boxers last night.Ron Wilson has a great comic book style. His fighting scenes show beautiful movement and action. I loved the storytelling by JB, there are more stories that could have come from this world. I wonder if there was any talk of it ?
