Here's a theory so ridiculous that there's a chance it could actually come to pass:

Marvel cancels their FF book(s) and they're kept on the far fringes of activity for the time being.

If the Faux 4 movie gets shelved or is a flop, they start up a new FF book with the team intact.

If the Faux 4 movie is a smash hit, they start a Nu FF book that resembles the movie, black Johnny Storm and all.

As much as I would LOVE to laugh at Marvel right now, it may actually be a way, in their minds at least, to protect the Fantastic Four characters, by distancing themselves from the stink of the new FF bomb from FOX. I'm not used to Marvel editorial trying to preserve the integrity of their heroes, since they usually spend all their time tearing them down beyond all recognition. Either way, I've long since left buying comics, so....*shrugs*

If this is true, my gut says Ronald is probably on target for Marvel's
reasoning.
I prefer for Marvel just to farm it out to IDW so JB can take it over.

I would like to think this was Marvel trying to protect the characters,
but I don't believe that for a second, considering what they've
managed to do to them in the last 15 years.

More than likely, the story got it right. Ike is mad because he doesn't
see enough revenue out of the FOX deal and wants to stick it to them
in any way he can.

The only word I'm coming up for this at the moment is: exasperating.

It seems awfully petty, in a manner of speaking, to just do things like this. I've never known comicbook companies to do this before. Then again, I've only known Marvel's FF even when Hanna-Barbera was doing the version that swapped Human Torch for a funny talking robot (H.E.R.B.I.E.). They never had that kind of hissy fit over that.

It reminds me just how awful the management of the company has become, and leaves me a bit depressed if they don't manage to pull their heads out of their (censored)s and end this lunacy.

Don't really know how to take this except that it's counterproductive to the business.... and it really hurts the fans of the FANTASTIC FOUR mostly. Still, as it's already been mentioned, the title hasn't been true to Stan and Jack's vision for awhile now. Last time I really enjoyed the book was way back when JB was steering the ship!

I read something on CBR the other day about Marvel doing the same thing with Wolverine...and I think they're cancelling his series. but I think he's such a cash cow that they would never do that.

And when it finally comes back, issue 1 will sell more copies than all those that didn't see print would have put together?

I've read couple of articles on this topic, and I'm flabbergasted. Marvel may
soon not be publishing "Marvel's First Family." Stunning.

This story seems to confirm a couple of worse-case
scenarios:
1) What happens when a comic book company is owned by a
larger company that only retains film rights to some of
their comic book properties?
2) What happens when Disney finally starts paying attention
to its Marvel Comics publishing division?

This could have happen to DC years ago, if not for the fact
Warner owns all their characters. OF course, Warner Bros.
(nowadays) can't make a decent movie with any of the DC
characters...
