Those are two of the most beautiful planes ever. The Mustang is a favorite of mine, but the Spitfire is just beautiful. I don't think any passenger plane ever looked as good as the Constellation.

My Father could tell you anything you wanted to know about the
Spitfire. He could tell, at a glance which model it was and whether a
movie got it right by putting the correct model in the correct battle.

It is a beautiful plane, although having grown up watching
Baa Baa Black Sheep, I was a bigger fan of the F4U Corsair.
I loved the wings on that plane.

I was always captivated by the Beechcraft's Starship design. I got to see one up close at a private airport called Ragsdale's that is now a supermarket and strip mall.

The magic of the Constellation and the Spitfire is that they look fast when they are standing still. The sweeping curves are what mostly does it.

Very few other aircraft really pull this off.

The Paine Field "Vintage Aircraft Weekend" was on today, so I was able to grab a few more photographs of one of the two flyable Spitfires based in the area:

As our Host said earlier, no matter which angle you look it, the aircraft looks fast.

Was able to get a view of the cockpit:

And as a slight divergence... I finally figured out the right settings on my point-&-shoot digital camera to do fast fly-by photos without having them get all blurred...

Very nice, Bill!
Airshows are tricky business, what with the planes not sitting still
or posing or anything.
Sometimes, what you need is luck:
Totally in camera, no Photoshop except for the inevitable crop:

The shot of the Super Hornet....and the gull is priceless.

I count the P51 Mustang, F4U Corsair (I know the Bent Wing Bird isn't pretty like the Mustang....but its 'beautiful'.) and the Spitfire as the most striking WW2 fighters.

Honorable mention: P38 Lightning

The F-14 Tomcat remains my most favorite airplane ever.
