I feel terrible for this little girl. As said above  her young psyche has to deal with this now . She has to find a way not blame herself.

You have to be:
16 years old to get a drivers license (car can be a deadly weapon if not
properly handled)
15-21 years old to Smoke (can kill after long term exposure)
21 years old to drink (can kill if used in excess)
17 years old to enlist in the military (you can kill in combat)

but no age limit to fire a device made to KILL people.

That girl will suffer her entire existence, and the household to which she
belongs will undoubtedly be somewhat akin to an insane asylum just
below whatever surface they manage to uphold that theirs is a "normal"
family.

This is a total tragedy for everyone involved, yet will only somehow, in
a uniquely American way, further embolden gun advocates.  Just thinking
about that (as it has always been the case, in recent years) is kind of
a mind-fuck (if you'll pardon the expression).

Gun advocates will merely dismiss this as (a) an isolated incident; and/or (b) reflecting the stupidity/incompetence of the instructor or parents. It's never about the guns themselves - guns are above reproach, and are a right under the Constitution. No further debate required.

I certainly feel for the girl and the fact that she will live with this for the
rest of her life. Having said that, the instructor should have had better
judgement in letting her near an Uzi.

The Arizona shooting has prompted a heated national debate over what guns are safe for use by minors, even under supervision. Experts agree that an Uzi was the wrong choice for a 9-year-old girl.

Not sure where to begin, but at least they agree an Uzi is too much for a 9-year-old. I don't think you need to be an expert to determine that though. I think the most startling part is that there is a debate over what guns are "safe" for use by minors. Emphasis mine. :/

Why can't gun manufacturers fix this? They seriously can't design guns that only an adult could operate? Or is that too much trouble for their bottom line?

Cannot imagine the NRA ever allowing such a thing.

I think the parents had poor judgement as well. They should be charged
with endangering the welfare of the child.

Save that poor little girl, not a single person involved in this incident is
not a complete idiot!

Guns don't kill people. Morons who support the unrestricted right of civilians to own guns kill people.
