As a kid, the X-Men #137 was the first comic I bought as a back-issue, and the only chapter of the Dark Phoenix Saga I read. There was just so much drama packed into 20 (?) pages. I wish this commision was mine; it's such a wonderful reminder of that story.

So the commissioner requested the Watcher and the Recorder, with some X-Men characters to fill out the piece? Nicely delivered, chief!

Seriously, this is the sort of commission I've dreamed about for years. Magnificent.

When I originally wandered into this tale, I had a very hard time accepting that the heroes I loved could be defeated this thoroughly.

That being said, this is a superb creation that actually makes me nostalgic.

Well done!

Looks like JB went for a twist on the tale. Instead of Jean transforming back into Dark Phoenix after all the X-Men got their collective butts trashed (including Cyclops, in front of her), she does it just as the fight is getting intense, making everyone stop and just register their horror ("She went off AGAIN!").

This is it!!! With only ten days for the year to come to an end I think it is impossible that I change my mind: This is my favorite comission during 2014!!!Still looking forward for the official thread on January 1st.

Congratulations again to the owner and our host!

I found the description, buried in a long chain of emails. I've added it to the original post at the top of this thread.

I did take a few w.i.p. pics, which I will also post later.

Now that I've posted the description from Jim, you can see that any "twist" was in what was asked for.

I love Wolverine's reaction to Nightcrawler's sudden appearance.  The whole thing is just great. Congrats to the commissioner.
