Watching the finale of MYTHBUSTERS on Saturday night and it just occurred to me that their crash test dummy is named "Buster" because, duh, that's the name of the SHOW.
Poor, doomed, Buster.

I pronounced meme as me-me for years until I heard some say it and it was "meem." Duh. Still prefer me-me though to be honest.

For many years I thought 'on tenterhooks' was 'on tender hooks'.

Me too Peter!
And I always thought it was 'welch' on bets, not realising that meant 'welsh'.

There are some pronunciation of names I'll never get:
"Favre" is pronounced "Farv". "Walesa" is pronounced "Walensa". "Fieri" is pronounced "Fietti".
Makes no sense to me.

Stay away from England, Kevin, unless you want to deal with Worchestershire being pronounced Woostersheer, or Cholmondley being Chumly, Leicester as Lester, and my favorite (albeit antique) Featheringstonehaugh, which any FOOL could tell is pronounced Fairshaw, right? Some years ago I loaned a young friend a biography of Elizabeth I, which she enjoyed enormously, but which led to some comical moments when we were chatting about it, and I had to tell her how some of those Tudor names were pronounce. Wriotheseley is Rizly?? "It's spelled 'Luxury-Yacht,' but it's pronounced 'Throat-Warbler-Mangrove'."

Althorp(Princess Diana`s family estate)...pronounced Althrup, how this is right when the `R` is clearly in the wrong place is beyond me!
J.B. you added a superfluous `H` to Worcestershire!

Makes no sense to me. ********** Remember that Bryne guy who used to draw Spiderman, and got an attitude when fans pointed out he was always misspelling both?;-)
Guy Fieri is the only 'guy' who pronounces his last name that way, in this country. The Italian pronunciation is something like a trilled 'r', although it sounds more like a double 'd'..'Fee-EDD-ee'.Most news stories about him pronounce it fee-airy. The others are pronounced the way they are in their original languages, Polish and French.
