Here's my report from the aftermath:
My workday got cut short by half when there was about 3" on the ground. The roads were just getting covered more quickly than plow crews could keep up with them, which meant that the truckers weren't going to be taking any loads if that meant sliding around on sharp turns. Nothing sucks like a jack-knifed semi with a load of material meant to be shipped overseas. The CSRs and I (basically the human fax machine for the separate warehouses) were sent home before Noon.
At home, I just waited it out and joined my dad in clearing the driveway __ him with a snow-thrower he brought about 10 years back and me with sheer manpower and a modified snow shovel __ once the snowfall stopped. I might need a little Ben Gay (tm) tomorrow and through the weekend, but at least there's a clear driveway and nothing else impeding my progress returning to work tomorrow.
The side roads in the area, though, will be another story. One of the warehouses sits in a small industrial part on the far side of a town, and the owners of the park hadn't sent a plow there by the time my co-workers there packed up with nothing being picked up the rest of the day. I even spun out the car (a slow, lazy spin) trying to get into the park from the main drive that goes by. So much for front-wheel drive.

Brian, I've been seeing the photos out of PEI - makes what hit NS seem pretty tame, and even that was enough to make my new Turkish friends ask me, with no trace of jest, "How do you survive?".

Walked into the living room an hour ago to find water running down the wall beneath the clerestory windows. And so it begins ----- again!

Ran the AC in my car when I dove to the store this afternoon.
80° this afternoon.
Unfortunately, my friends in the northeast aren't enjoying good weather.

Found an interesting photo of my area after that big dump of snow in February.
First photo shows us as we are most of the year.
Nova Scotia on the right, New Brunswick on the left, and cradled in between, little ol' Prince Edward Island.
As you can see, we are indeed an island - surrounded by water.
This second photo, is after the snow dump.
The extreme cold has frozen all the water around us, and the snowfall makes it look like we were completely buried.
Today started off -18C with a wind chill of -26C. It is supposed to moderate starting tomorrow.
I'm heading south for two weeks in April, but, Summer still can't come soon enough.

I'm thinking that Old Man Winter had given us a kick in the nads on the way out, but I could be wrong. My father tells me that he remembers really bad heavy snowfall that came in April. Having seen some in October once while in school (early '80s), I wouldn't be surprised.
Hoping this year won't be the case. 8 inches is more than enough for me!

And the "great melt" begins in the Chicago area. It's already 37° with a high of 43° today and highs in the mid-40's and 50's over the next 10 days or so.
