Along those lines, Rick, we put together a "first night" care package for ourselves and packed it in one of our cars
, which included all prescription meds, some paper plates, plasticware, cups, etc., so that just in case we couldn't find the silverware and plates, or were too tired to unpack, we'd have easy access to some temporary stuff to get us by for the first night or the first few nights.

Also, regarding prescription meds, make sure you pack ALL the prescription meds (and any "critical" over-the-counter meds, plus band-aids) in a box that YOU transport yourself (e.g., take it to the new place in YOUR car).  That's stuff that you DON'T want to have to try to locate at the end of the day on the day of your move.

I was a mover for a few years. Hire movers. Check their reputation, usually ones affiliated with a national company are good choices. Get several estimates and check what's included. Some will lowball and then charge for tape, boxes, pads. Some will include those costs in the estimate.

Movers do this stuff everyday, so what would take you a week takes them a day.  And always buy the extra insurance, but check the deductible. Good luck!

I've moved many times and I believe planning ahead is important. Get the small stuff boxed up first and then that way everything else flows easy.
It's the little stuff that slows you down, the big stuff is easy.

I got most of my crap boxed up early and moved out to declutter my house to sell. I moved about 50 miles away at the time and took my stuff to a storage area everyday I went to work. I ended up moving most of my belongings in my VW Golf.
After the house sold, about a month later, I rented a U-Haul and got the big items out.

Hey, we have the same Thor-tin-sign-thingy!

I can really picture you working on this room as the movers empty out all the really heavy stuff. Oh, and beautiful house!
