John Buscema was THE master (IMO) when I started reading comics. His first FF run, after Kirby's, was so good. Although the stories lacked the magic of Lee/Kirby or even JB's run, the art was jaw dropping! His Avenger's work was outstanding, a perfect pair to Stern's amazing writing. His Silver Surfer... masterpiece! And the women he drew in Conan... wow! Even with my pre teen eyes I could tell they were gorgeous!
I specially like when he or Sal take on the inking chores. A perfect fit.
I think some of his work might have suffered from sub par inkers drawing on top of simple breakdowns.

Many of you seem to be overlooking Big John's work on THE AVENGERS with Thomas and Palmer, back around the time of the Kree/Skrull War. Overshadowed by Neal Adams, perhaps?

That's probably my personal favorite Buscema period.

Not overshadowed. Just before my time. I was REALLY into Marvel for about a year before Big John joined Stern on the title. And it was all the notes played just right. With that title, you on FF and AF, DeFalco/Frenz on AMS, Walt on THOR, Claremont/JRjr on UXM, Mantlo/Sal on HULK, my god, Marvel was a GREAT place for some comics. I was even getting the "lesser" IRON MAN and NEW MUTANTS at that time. I didn't really care about those earlier issues until much later. While the work was fantastic, it just doesn't hold the same magic for me as the books I would get every month from my subscriptions.

I mimicked  John Buscema's style for a while back in the late seventies,
mostly because I got How To Draw Comics the Marvel Way as a gift.

That first Buscema run was before my time as well. I think I was around 8 when I picked up Avengers 181 which was one of my first issues. But I did get some of those issues later and the art is fantastic.

The Buscema AVENGERS is one of my favorites. Black Panther is
especially cool.

What an excellent drawing of Quicksilver that is. Definitive for me. Shows a great grasp of what can be exaggerated with artistic license -- the length of the two pieces of his hair that stand out would be ridiculous in real life, but here it works perfectly. And the dramatic foreshortening is about as good as it gets.
