Eric, depending how deep you want to dig into your pockets there is an
artist's edition of Ronin through Graphiti Press. They just call it a Gallery
Edition.

That Simonson guy sure can draw! He may have a future in these comic books.

Was RONIN a creator-owned project Frank did thru DC?

I've still yet to read it.

I enjoyed Ronin quite a bit. I thought it was an inventive story at the time and the art was not typical, but still quite good. I recommended it to many friends. Give it a read, Brian.

I've planned to for about 25 years now. Just haven't taken the plunge and bought it.

RONIN was the first time I had a strong impression that Frank changed course about midway thru the story. I also felt he did that with the first SIN CITY and DKR.

JB can you elaborate on that? I know you've talked about the influence
Watchmen had on DKR but I don't know anything about any changes to
Ronin or Sin City( other than the change in art style over the course of
Sin. City).

Just a feeling I had. Marv, for instance, seemed to change a lot, and not in the sense of a character arc.

Maybe I'm reading it all wrong (wouldn't be the first time).

As the art became more stylized Marv became massive. At the
beginning of the book he was big but not abnormally so.

Yeah, he was almost skinny in the first few chapters.

RONIN's coloring is one of its most impressive features. No sense in
getting a b&w print.

Kurt Busiek noted:

"He’s been talking for years about the crude power of superheroes, how they had more impact in the Golden Age when they were raw, unpolished."

Kurt might have a point here. I think the impact of comic books may have been lessened by the specialization of the medium. But I don't think the noticeable dick was part of that unpolished Golden age...
