During his run on Thor and Thunderstrike, Frenz was fairly famously swiping known panels and incorporating Kirby and Buscema layouts and compositions into his work. All in the name of respectful, editorially sanctioned "homage," of course...

Of course...

I've gotta say that "Serial Swiper" does not apply to the artwork of Ron Frenz. He adopts the styles of others but he can't be labelled swiper.
He echoes the look of others but he doesn't trace, or rely on previous panels.

I agree…. Ron Frenz shows his passion for Marvel Comics in his art. He really made a great choice to adapt the styles of the GREATS from Marvel's past and apply it to his own style. I followed him from his start pencilling ASM when Peter Parker worn the black costume for the first time and Frenz's pencils always were very cool and easy on the eyes!

Lately I've seen some pretty nice commission work from him:

Really enjoyed his runs on THOR and SPIDER-GIRL and Sal Buscema inking him is a solid collaboration to me!

-C!

It's not like he's a clone of one particular artist either, he even did a great homage to Ross Andru's style in a few issues of Spider-Girl.

I didn't know Frenz had added Andru to his repertoire.  Could someone post the issue numbers?

He did much the same on his SUPERMAN run. The annual he did with
JB had a very John Buscema feel to it with Brett Breeding channeling
Tom Palmer in his inking. The following year, his work was more
Kirbyesque as they reintroduced the Guardian, the Newsboy Legion
and the Project. When Frenz did the regular title, he seemed more in
Sal Buscema mode. I gotta say, I really enjoyed it all!

Definitely of the "Sal Buscema School," but I've never thought of him as a swiper.

Ron and Sal both have fan pages on Facebook.  Sal's is called Sal Buscema POW! and Ron's is the Ron Frenz Appreciation Society.  They both have very nice rarities posted from time to time, so they're worth checking out if you're on facebook.
