As you (JB) say. Given the differences in the characters' appearance from comicbooks to movies, identifying some characters would be difficult for civilians, but how does a Byrne Robotics Member compare?

I started reading comicbooks in the 1960s, so, I can name all the characters, even if I could not spell some of the names, like Dormammu, correctly.

Where are we drawing the line of a civilian.  I understand comic fan/casual reader/non reader  But nowadays, there are many people that are fans of the characters through many other media. Is someone who is a fan via video games, or television cartoons, or even just the drawings on t-shirts not count as a fan?

I find it interesting that on 95% plus of the material produced with characters on, where comic images are used rather than movie images, it is the versions of those characters that we know and love from the 60's to 80's that are represented.

I would like to see a justification of this from Marvel. Because to my mind it shows that they know the old, on model versions are what people associate with a character and that the current versions do not gain traction with the public.

I also wonder whether more people are buying t-shirts such as this than are buying comics. In fact, I'm pretty sure that would be the case as I see more people in such shirts than I do walking around with comic bags.

So why not have these characters represented as such in the comics if that is what people think they look like?

Would royalties be higher on more recent artwork?

That black area above the "Co" is very strange.  And is that Modok (again!) behind it?

Apologies for going off-topic, but who is the artist of the Hulk in this image? Is it Sal Buscema or John Romita? I can't seem to get the answer from Google, but to me, that's the "Classic" Hulk.
Thanks!

Thank you!

I even have some Herb Trimpe Spider-Man (Team-Up) original art on my wall, but I forget that he's a quintessential Hulk artist...!

Oops - now I am confused! I thought it looked Romita-ish, but wasn't sure. I only ask because I'm sure that, as a small kid in 78-79ish, I had a T-shirt that I loved, with that Hulk on it!

I'm pretty sure that's a Romita drawn or inked (and thus redrawn) Hulk.
