Re: Cubits.
Obsolete unit of measure. Length from your elbow to the tip of your middle finger.
So it presents some engineering issues due to different-size people. They'd clearly need a specific person to act as a standard.
If you are familiar with woodworking though, you are probably aware that the less measuring the better. Using gages (<-yes, in this context that's spelled right) like story-sticks etc. are the only really practical way to get consistency. So, in practice about "yay big" (a cubit) is probably plenty accurate.

My former house, built in 1845, was slightly bigger than its "identical" sister, two lots over. I said it was probably because the guy who paced off my house had longer legs!

I passed this today in Marylandhttp://dcist.com/2014/02/gods_ark_of_safety_i-68s.php In progress since 1976. The pastor is still looking for funds. This is a problem I assume Noah did not have...

Conrad, thanks for the information. I actually was trying to reference a stand up routine Bill Cosby once did. It's pretty hilarious.

Ultimately, what matters to me is this insipid insistence that this Ark will 'set sail,' when clearly it has none. I would have preferred 'launch.'

A little update on ark related stuff:
Did the bible mention it took Noah and 1000+ craftsmen to build the ark? Maybe when the end of the world is coming people work a little faster than they would on a theme park attraction. I can't help but wonder if one day this will all boil down to something comparable to this:

Yes, but how old did Noah get to be? 950 years old? He probably could devote several decades, or possibly even a century or two, to constructing the ark. Maybe God really wanted to give everyone a fair chance to change their debauched ways. And, y'know, give the animals a chance to change THEIR ways before destroying them too. Damn those chimpanzees...

Holy crap it is complete. How in the world can anyone with an ounce of sense look at this and think it happened just like in "the book". I wish the Vogons would just level the planet already.

The most amazing part is that the taxpayers of Kentucky ponied up $18 million for this bullshit. Condolences to any Forum members in Kentucky.

Despite reading that article, I'm no wiser how these creationists scammed taxpayers money to build this absurdity.
