It's not like the Christian Right is being mind controlled or somehow surrendering closely held beliefs. They've always been authoritarian,  metastatically capitalist, and motivated by white identity politics. To the extent theological judgement even enters into this or is even relvant, theirs is based on selective literal interpretation of the teachings of a man who extensively spoke in parables, suggesting deep error in their core beliefs, not to mention ethics and morality driven by self-service and convenience. Trump is the Prosperity Gospel candidate they've been waiting for.

 QUOTE:
He just keeps finding new sides of his mouth to talk out of. Now he's telling the LGBT community he'll be the best thing that ever happened to them* after saying a few months back he was against gay marriage. How do his supporters not see thru his bullshit?

While I detest Trump as much as the next guy, It's only fair to point out that both Hillary Clinton and Obama have flip-flopped on that issue.

There is plenty of material out there exposing Trumps foolishness but his flip-flopping on LGBT issues is not unique to him (or the Republicans for that matter).

There was a brief period where former veep Dick Cheney was in the vanguard on gay marriage, of all people.

Only because his daughter is gay, Kevin.

That was likely a factor, but the why isn't all that important.  Never diminish someone for finally coming around.

It's also likely he only changed his mind on it because he was out of office and gave even less of a fuck than usual.

It's worth noting that Cheney's "support" for gay marriage has always been equivocal.  In the 00's, he said that he personally supported it, but also said that he felt it should be left up to the individual states to decide whether or not it was legalized.  When Bush endorsed a Constitutional amendment against gay marriage in 2004, Cheney noted that he disagreed, but also that "the President makes policy for the administration."  And when his straight daughter Liz ran for Congress on an anti-gay marriage platform in 2013, Cheney supported her, despite the fact that her sister Mary and Mary's wife had spoken out publicly against her stand.

Found out yesterday that Trump is part of the anti-vaccination brigade.

There goes the .0000000000000000000000000000000000000000001% chance that I might vote for him!

George Will has left the GOP over Trump.

If only the Republicans could shatter like the Whigs of yore and a latter-day Lincoln start a new party. It should be easy to find a Lincoln-like Republican, eh?

••

Read this this morning. Amazing!

George Will is one of those guys who talks a lot of sense, but then keeps talking. I used to make a point of reading his column in NEWSWEEK, and very often I would agree with him entirely. Then the next week I would disagree, also entirely!

This from CBS News, tho:

"He said that House Speaker Paul Ryan's endorsement of Trump was one of the reasons he jumped the GOP ship…"

To "jump ship" is a BAD thing.

Libertarian Party...
