Jonn Jonz is a telepath. He only has a weakness to fire if he allows you to know that he does. He can erase that bit of knowledge from anyone's mind.

I'm a huge fan of Cyclops, but I wouldn't nominate him as the most powerful member of the team. Considering Jean could use telekinesis to lift him up (and point his face away from her), or use her telepathy to control him, it's hard to argue he's stronger than her.
J'Onn *could* remove that knowledge but...why hasn't he? Is it a moral compulsion that keeps him from meddling in others' minds? If so, he's basically handing his enemies a surefire (no pun intended) way to beat if not kill him.
Most powerful of the Next Men...? Jack is certainly the strongest, physically, but Bethany is invulnerable and Danny is super-fast. Both are credible contenders for "most powerful." (Though Jasmine is certainly the most fun!)

And I LOVE Sasquatch, Jason, I really do--but I wouldn't say he's necessarily the most powerful. In terms of physical strength, sure--but that's not quite the same thing. :)

By virtue of them being "specialists," I deliberately structured the Next Men to avoid any "Who's the most powerful" discussions. Each is really good at one particular thing, but those things are so different there is no comparison. (Is Jack better at being strong than Danny is/was at being fast?)

I hadn't considered Next Men in that light, JB, but it makes perfect sense. Each of them is REALLY good at their particular specialty but that doesn't mean one is "most powerful." Thanks!

J'Onn J'Onzz...
That character has been so mistreated over the years, I would almost think John Byrne created him.

Anytime a character devolves into bits of "schtick," like the Oreos joke, it's time to step away from the keyboard and stop injuring the property you're being paid to write. You only think you like the characters at that point, and really, you don't.
When I was a kid, the (then) short history the characters and teams had carried a certain amount of heft. To me, in that era, it was strangely magical whenever J'Onn reappeared. He was a founding member of the League who had gone off to be with his fellows Martians on Mars II... Time had passed. His story, by and large, was over, which sent a basic message through the rest of the comics, that the authors were going to play fair with the audience. Stories have beginnings, middles, and endings. By allowing certain characters to reach their's, DC suggested the others someday would as well... You gained the sense that you were reading something of consequence and not just this month's useless stack of pages to throw into the mouths of the Deadline Langoliers hot on your heels, as they would be forever and always...
If some stories were allowed to end, to have a sense of meaning and consequence, then this month's might as well. Or next month's. It felt more exciting this way.
Bringing J'Onn back for the Detroit Era of all things felt pointless and hollow, like the idea of filling repopulating a Kandorian facsimile with tiny aliens Superman would have to "cure" in a completely different manner than he did last time... Nothing ever ends. It's all just more of the same, forever and always. And by adding Oreo jokes, you make the whole, empty exercise irritatingly self-aware at the same time... Phooey.

Does the "default" setting for telepathic characters include the ability to control the minds of others?

Does the "default" setting for telepathic characters include the ability to control the minds of others?•• It shouldn't. Telepathy is mind-reading. Anything else, would have to be added on.

That's what I thought. Then again, when people mention Jean, I think of Marvel Girl and her talents instead of Phoenix and all of that power.
