Marc, I once got into a back and forth with someone about how powerful the
Martian Manhunter is. My position was pretty much the same as that you've
shared here. The other guy's argument was that because of his weakness to
fire, Jonn could be beaten by a match! (He was echoing a threat Batman had
made in Darwyn Cooke's New Frontier.)

Works for me! She's almost the Phoenix of the Titans, in that she could really go wild and...what are they gonna do? Nobody else on the team's regular line up had mystical powers.
J'Onn J'Onzz is an interesting case. If you wanted to try and outdo Superman on nearly every front, you'd create a Martian Manhunter--even to the point of giving him a ridiculously ubiquitous weakness. (Poor John couldn't even go to a rock concert in the '60s and '70s...) He's very powerful, sure, but that weakness robs him of the number one spot, IMHO.
You could make a great case for Zatanna being the strongest of the JLA, sure. And I think Spectre is one of the most powerful human-based entities in the DCU. Being the Wrath of God has to come with some perks...
