Bill Collins: I`m curious, what are the statistics on black on black killings due to gang crime? Why no protestations about that? Not being facetious, just sparking debate.

--

The statistics regarding Black on Black crime in the U.S. are readily available online. And Black people (as well as Brown and White) have been protesting gang violence for decades.

You say you are not being facetious--but you began with this incorrect assumption. Why the need to "spark debate" from a red herring?

"Black On Black" crime is a white supremacist term, which denotes how embedded these ideas are in the American psyche, that it can be invoked casually, as if someone's talking about the weather.

It infers that Blacks in general are inherently violent, self-destructive, and dangerous (inferior to whites), while ignoring the causes of said behavior among a PORTION of Blacks.

Which is why you can see Black men and boys be brutally murdered on video, and the perpetrators (The Police) can get away with it.

Over and over again.

Whites kill each other all the time, and throughout history, yet it's not called "White On White" crime.

There has been a lot of death and violence in the news lately, yet only the brutal, violent death of Black men, is the only ones you see on TV.

I mean, you actually see them DIE on camera.

I wonder why?

Should we similarly change the topic in the threads relating to "Gun Deaths" to simply "Deaths?" After all, no likes death, really, and most deaths should be stopped if we can help it. Certainly I'd like mine prevented, and you may feel the same about yours. Why are we getting so upset when a child is shot to death and not when a child dies of brain cancer? Shouldn't these threads care about those kids too? Or... does that tiny bit of specificity allowed for by the presence of the adjective "Gun" actually draw attention to a crucial aspect of what needs to be discussed?

"Black Lives Matter" is about the lives of Blacks. Co-opting the phrase for happy, hippie-headband wearing and slapping the Blacks on the wrist by correcting their focus for them misses the point in a big way.

Yes, "Lives Matter." This just in, "Water's Wet." Now can we actually talk about the topic of Black Lives seeming to hold little importance to law-enforcement, government officials, conservatives in general, and amatuer grammarians everywhere, or do we need to hokey-pokey around the phrasing a bit more?

"Black On Black" crime is a white supremacist term…

Tell that to Jesse Jackson.

Tell that to Jesse Jackson.

He already knows, if you pay attention to who he's actually working for.

Plenty of Black media faces propagate white supremacist ideas.

On BOTH sides of the political spectrum.

Even conscious, fair-minded people can mistakenly use terms (if said often enough) which reinforce negative stereotypes about a group.or individual, till it become "TRUE".

Even to the very people it's meant to deceive and disenfranchise.

This is how insidious the culture of White Supremacy is.

Sometimes those terms are invoked PURPOSEFULLY as well.

Wow.

This board has no room for paranoia and muck-raking.

Buh-bye now.

After the President's emotional speech in Dallas yesterday, a few 'talking heads' accused him of "race-baiting"…. WTF???

Some say it was neither the time nor the place for the speech he gave.

Really?? Seems to me these critics need to relax on their personal, political agendas and realize that this IS THE TIME.

I saw a tweet from the North Miami Beach PD:

Seems to be much confusion on social media. Isn't there something like three places called Miami in Florida, all separate (but perhaps within the same county)?

Just spent a couple of hours discussing guns with some Americans online. The arguments are at once familiar and perplexing. They feel safer having the guns. They don't trust the statistics. Cars kill people as well.

Jeez.

Cars can kill people. Baseball bats can kill people. Meat cleavers can kill people. Bathtubs can kill people. Chainsaws can kill people.   Frozen legs of lamb can kill people.

But what those who site these, and others, are so relentlessly ignoring is that none of these things were DESIGNED to kill people. That is not their FUNCTION.
