what kind of a monster is Reed Richards that he could EVER call his best friend "Thing"?

**************

Why wouldn't he call him that? It's his code name. They're in the midst of a battle.

As I remember, Reed was far from okay with what he had done to poor Ben... and was trying his best to reverse the Thing's "condition" and this was actually a few issues prior...

... trying to be the best friend he could. ;)

Reed called him Thing because once upon a time comic books were written for a younger and new(er) audience. Names (both real and code), relationships, and powers all had to be established every issue. Adult sensibilities may be offended, but kids weren't. They got it.

I miss those days.

My all-time favorite punch:

Panel 2 suffers from the same problem as the Spider-Man/Green Goblin punch from earlier in the thread. Thor's head and upper body should be turning in the opposite direction; with the flow of the punch.

Just curious: what's this from?

We know this is the Mightiest Punch of All Time because it says so right on the cover. Really, you can't lie about stuff like that...

Also, if I'm not mistaken, those panels Corey posted are from Avengers 219 or 220, a Jim Shooter scripted story in which Moondragon takes over Thor to help her rule over an entire planet whose aggressive and warlike impulses she has suppressed.

Shooter. No surprise at all when I checked who wrote it. Exposition 'R' Us.

And the balloon placement...!

Wallace, I believe I have read that one at some point. As I recall, Professor Zoom had to keep vibrating in our century to remain here and when the Flash punched him, he halted those vibrations, thereby punching his foe 500 years into the future. I think that's how it went...

I may have that story in Showcase Presents form... I should check and see.

Wallace, were you asking about the Avengers story by Shooter? That one I know I've read, but don't have handy at the moment. Moondragon seemed very much a pet character of Shooter's, the one destined for better things and cruelly overlooked in favor a lesser choice; Someone whose superior intellect and perspective forever kept her at odds with little people who couldn't see what she saw or understand why the things she did were for everyone's benefit, no matter how self-serving they might appear at the moment... The theme came up a few times when Shooter wrote the character.
