Eric Jansen, even though Hillary "barely" won the popular vote, only 47.5% of the votes went to Trump. More than half the country, or rather those who voted, does not want him in office. The same can be said for Hillary.
Be that as it may, more people wanted her to win, again in terms of who actually cast votes, than any other candidate. This goes back to the primaries as well.
By the way, I don't think nearly a quarter million votes is "barely" a win. That's margin between Hillary and Trump.

One vote is all it takes. Sometimes I think we should save a few million dollars, and just have a lottery. The individual who wins the lottery gets to pick the next president. Makes about as much sense as the Electoral College.

I am saving up $270,000 for the next time around. I figure that, since an elector can vote the way that they choose and face only a $1,000 fine, I'll have a big BBQ, show them some hospitality and I can buy me a president.

…an elector can vote the way that they choose…•• Yes, tho the likelihood of an Electoral College upset is, well, unlikely, the fat lady has not yet sung on this one.

Well, kats and kittens, we can keep licking this wound forever without accomplishing much of anything.Who's in favor of locking down this thread? At least until Trump's first hundred days are over?

One vote from me.I'm exhausted. This whole thing has been a bigger ordeal than I ever remember it being in the past.
Right now I'm inclined to get a big pile of comic books and let the world handle itself for a few days.

Speaking of Bernie and his hair....
Key states that Hillary lost to Trump in the general.....she also lost to Bernie in the primary.
Indiana - Bernie beat her by 5 points in the primary. she lost to Trump by 20...in a state that went for Obama in 2012
Michigan - She was widely expected to beat Bernie due to her strong support with black voters. Bernie beat her with the majority of rural whites in the state. The same demographic that beat her in the general.
West Virginia - Bernie beat her by 15 points in the primary. Hillary lost WV in the general election to Trump. While WV elected a democrat Governor and rejected Clinton. Again, largely rural white voters.
Wisconsin - Bernie kicked her ass there in the primary. Again with largely white males. Trump's victory there in a traditionally Democratic state was the last nail in her coffin on election night. They didn't even bother to wait for Michigan's results.
If you recall the Democratic primary, Hillary made great strides in the southern states. She cleaned up there. In states where she never stood a chance when it mattered.....
He had the right message for this election and he was the right person to deliver it. It was the DNC that ignored all the signals and put their thumb on the scale for Hillary. And we have at least 4 sketchy years of Trump to show for it.
As it is right now, the Democratic Party might be comatose for the foreseeable future. Until they figure out how the tide shifts beforehand instead of during their autopsy after a big loss, the GOP will dig in and and hunker down.
The old, socialist jew who energized and excited young voters like nobody before crafted the populist message that Trump hijacked to beat Hillary in her own backyard(s). He should have been the Dem nominee and its never been more clear. And yes, his hair is a mess.
Live and learn.

It's a vote from me, too. The people have spoken whether we agree or disagree with how it turned out. Let's just hope he doesn't cause a complete disaster and after he's second term (there will be a second term mark my words) he's left the country and the world relatively unscathed.

It goes back and forth every eight years, folks!
***
Which is what keeps me from being too bummed about the results. It's disappointing to see someone as unqualified and detestable as Trump win, but the Republicans getting back in power was inevitable; it's just part of the ebb and flow of American politics. We take a few steps to the Left, and then a few steps back to the Right. When one party takes the results of an election too seriously as a rebuke or a mandate, I rather roll my eyes. The American voters are fickle; within eight years, things will shift in the other direction.
Which is not to discount the damage that can be done in eight years, but this is how it's been my entire life and I don't see it changing.

Shaun Berry: "If anyone knows of any die-hard Cleveland Indians fans who happened to vote for Hillary...
...give them a hug ASAP!"
Both here, and I've been laid off for seven months, despite my best efforts to be reemployed.
I need more than a hug today. :)
