I had to look this up. Its just a doner kebab with sweet sauce? Whyyyy?------------------------------------------------------ First thing to admit: I myself have never had a donair (though a veteran of many doners in London over the years).
Small technicality: donair uses ground beef, whereas a doner tends to be lamb (or chicken if you want to be odd). The donair sauce often comes as a dip with pizzas here!
Coincidentally, I took this photo at the weekend. Donair and East Coast all in one building's signage. I do agree that the Maritimes is a far more prevalent term.
The difference between a donair and a doner is small, much as the difference between a Caesars and a Bloody Mary. But it only takes a small difference to become a regional dish, it seems!
