The most common misconception I get is people thinking I do lighting. Perhaps I don't explain what I do very well!

He got quite nasty and said, "I thought a civil servant might be aware of what other departments are doing." In my head, I'm saying, "Dickhead! How many government agencies do you think there are."

I may as well go and approach a military policeman on an army base and ask him a question about the City of London Police. After all, as a police officer, he'll know, right.

Okay, a little different to your example, but it happens. A friend who was a postman told me that people would come into his sorting office and ask questions about PRIVATE couriers. And when they couldn't help, some folk would get nasty. 

People, eh?

I'm a "purveyor of hopes and dreams". Or as it says on my resume, I design slot machine games.

I'm a creative director and I currently head up a division of artists responsible for (a major film studio's unannounced game initiative). Our active fanbase is 60 million strong, so that's a lot of hopes and dreams I have to account for.

I also work for Marvel Comics (as an illustrator) and in television animation (as a background artist) in a freelance capacity.

Mr. Byrne - Sub-category - what high-falutin' title would I use for my job? I think that instead of Technical Customer Service, I might be "High Level Technical Maintenance Public Interface Specialist.?

In customer technical support - "Look, I don't have time to screw around. Just push that button you people all have and get my system working again!" That and, "I don't care what I did to my computer, or whether it's plugged in or not, or whether I'm sitting in front of it or not! Just FIX IT!"

You see, I go from Bruce Banner to the Hulk when that is asked. I don't get asked it in my current role, but did in various other roles.

Because, yeah, whatever organisation I worked for, we were one big collective. Like the Borg. Of course I know John Cowshit, who works 110 miles away and working at regional office; of course Jane Cowshit, who works in sales 400 miles away, is a personal friend of mine. 

Yeah. We know every employee intimately. We adopt a Dr. Strange pose and see "all possible realities". If Lord Muck of Cowshit Farm Street has put a complaint in about John Doe working in operations 400 miles away, we'll know about it.

It's not just about companies, either. I've seen people get on buses and ask for details of ANOTHER bus company. One driver told a guy he didn't know as it was a separate company, but the pig-ignorant passenger said, "But it's a bus, mate, why don't you know?" I'd have been tempted to say, "Because there are countless bus companies and no-one short of God could know every possible route!"

Sorry, I have become angry after working with the public over time. 

"Oh, do you know so-and-so? Yeah, sure, so-and-so's in the Navy, and he's been on a ship for the majority of his time in the service... but you guys all know each other, right?"
