War comics were generally not my thing, so I think this was the first and last one I ever purchased, if only as a back issue:

Another book I regret later trading away!  I must have gotten something good for it, I suppose.

EDIT: Actually, except for really high-end copies, it looks like this issue is not valued all that highly these days....  Oh well, I enjoyed reading it multiple times.

Yeah, I bought everything when I was a kid--except war comics.  I guess I skipped westerns too, but they were mostly gone by the time I started buying.  Does THE INVADERS count?--cause I bought all of those!  And ALL-STAR SQUADRON too!

It was this issue of Weird War Tales with this glorious Joe Kubert cover that's seared into my memory.

Shane, I'm glad someone else posted that cover. That image really sticks with you, doesn't it?

I picked up the occasional war comic as a kid: Sgt Rock. Fury, Haunted Tank and even a Charlton book or two. The first one I bought on a regular basis was Star-Spangled War Stories starring the Unknown Soldier.

I was not into War comics, but I was into 'Action Force' and I collected Battle Action Force. Not 100%, but I may have got the first issue as a freebie.

Brian, I couldn't remember the issue number, but it only took me a few seconds to spot it when browsing the covers of Weird War Tales. I haven't had it since I was around 9 or so years old. 40 years later and it's still a vivid memory.

War stories were a staple of UK boys' comics when I was growing up. My weekly of choice, Valiant, had the adventures of Captain Hurricane. Played pretty much straight when first launched, by the time I was reading it had become a comedy feature. Royal Marine Captain Hercules Hurricane would display superhuman strength while suffering from his trademark "raging fury".

Colin mentioned Warlord earlier and I remember buying that from the first issue and for couple of years afterwards.

Neither was a fan of War comics or movie, with the exception of the tv show Baa baa Black Sheep (Les Têtes brulées) starring Robert Conrad.

But i loved WW2 stories with super-heroes.
My first one was the Invaders story introducing U-Man (Merrano).
About a year (maybe more, maybe even two) later i read and loved the Batman / Sergent Rock story "Operation time Bomb" (against the Major Iron Hand) from The Brave and the Bold 162) and of course loved it.

A few years again and i was a fan of the All Star Squadron.

Today I own and like to reread the two volumes of the Invaders complete run
