Ooh...nice one, JB.  Hadn't even considered that about Vampires.  I don't know why my brain slipped into thinking their weakness to the sun was a scientific effect.

There’s been a lot of that in movies, recently. Trying to make vampires “realistic”?

The notion that Captain Marvel's lightning bolt can be used as a weapon (as in Kingdom Come) annoys the hell out of me.  It is magic lightning, and it does not inflict harm, it conveys the power of Shazam.  If Superman is struck by this magic lightning, he should become Super-Marvel, not be knocked for a loop as he was in Kingdom Come.

Another popular misconception! It is not solar energy that is anathema to vampires. It is the PURITY of the Sun’s light.

Dang it JB, thanks for ruining that cool ending of The Batman VS Dracula animated movie for me. That movie followed that popular misconception in how they had Batman defeat Dracula.

All you need to do is remember how long vampire legends have been around. No way anybody thought about solar radiation, back when the undead first started haunting those Carpathian valleys. Ah, but something mystical, like the purity of the Sunshine....

Has it ever been codified anywhere that vampires are a little less powerful during a full moon, or does the light being reflected negate the purity of the sunlight?

Recently watched Innocent Blood and as much as I enjoyed it for the fun vibe, they were pretty loosey-goosey even with their own rules about sunlight.  Some vampires almost instantly burst into flame and dust while others like Frank Langela and Don Rickles really got the slow, agonizing burn.

This doesn't bother me.
Question, in the history of comics has anyone else ever been struck by Captain
Marvel's lighting besides the marvel family or Superman? I can't remember
ever seeing this trick used against anyone else.

Yes.  In Whiz Comics #21, Billy Batson meets three other kids whose names also happen to be Billy Batson.  To keep things clear, they adopt the nicknames Tall Billy, Fat Billy, and Hill Billy to distinguish themselves from "Real Billy."  Later in the story, all four of them are struck at the same time by the magic lightning, and the three other Billys turn into the Lieutenant Marvels, with the same powers as Captain Marvel.

More recently, in DC Comics Presents Annual #3, Dr. Sivana creates a device that causes the magic lightning to split into "two forks."  One fork hits Billy, the other is drawn to Sivana's device, where it hits him and transforms him into Captain Sivana.

Hill Billy

----

I was vaguely aware of the Lieutenant Marvels, but I had never read any of the original stories featuring them, so I never picked up on that pun!

There was also an issue of SHAZAM! in the 70s where an alien villain named Zazzo used a lightning rod to divert the magic lightning from Billy to him, giving him Captain Marvel's powers.
