The original SECRET ORIGINS annual was one of the most significant comics of my young life. I still have vivid memories of buying it and reading it for the first time. A “game changer”. So when I was asked to work on a comic with the same title, I jumped!

I would like to see JB and Paul Kupperberg create and work on a new superhero team for DC comprised of all of the Doom Patrol characters that they created (and DC either killed off or ignored) when they worked on the Doom Patrol. Maybe they could even call the book "The Freak Patrol". Of course the chances of that happening are most likely slim to none, but a guy can dream.

I sure hope that Doom Patrol # 1-18 are the issues JB did.

I doubt it, Jan. I think those issues are from the series that eventually became the Vertigo series after issue #19.

I really enjoyed the SHOWCASE issues and the JB origin story, but I guess I drifted away after CRISIS. Now, I really wouldn't mind reading the Paul Kupperberg & Steve Lightle/Erik Larsen run, which I see ended with issue 18. Grant Morrison took over with #19 and those issues have been collected for a while now (but they look too weird for me, so I never cared).

Eric,
Steve Lightle is a fine artist - along with the slice of JB fabulousness, it should make this worth picking up.

The SO story is also featured in the recent DC Universe by John Byrne that came out at the end of 2017 and is much more affordable (and includes nothing but JB stuff).

I like those pastiche panels of the various '60s covers. I had the one in the first panel (My Greatest Adventure #80, though in a very low grade) and the one in the fourth panel (Doom Patrol #91).
The 2004 Doom Patrol series started out okay, picking up where the six part JLA story left off, and got stronger as it went along I thought.
They did new reprint type editions of the Flash annual from 1963 and an unpublished Green Lantern one... would've loved a 1961 Secret Origins annual to go with them and the various 80 Page things they put out circa late '90s-early '00s.

Question about Beast Boy:
Was he gray/purple during his entire time in the Doom Patrol, or did he turn green at some point? Or was he retconned to green when they launched New Teen Titans with him as Changeling? I've never read any of the original Doom Patrol stories where he was a member.
(I know later on during NTT is was retconned so he was always green, when they did his origin during that mini-series they did where each issue focused on either Cyborg, Changeling, Raven or Starfire.)

Beast Boy was green from his first appearance onwards. He wore a gray/purple mask when fighting alongside the Doom Patrol to disguise his identity.
