Brian's right.
Beast Boy started off with a mask in which the top part only was gray, it later morphed to a full face mask with the top looking like hair.

The only retcon I recall with Beast Boy/Changeling was that in his Silver Age appearances, he would change into an animal that'd be normal-colored except for having a green face. As of DC COMICS PRESENTS No. 26 and NEW TEEN TITANS No. 1, his animal forms were green all over and, as of the flashback story in TALES OF THE NEW TEEN TITANS No. 3, always were.

They did one:

They also reprinted the follow-up Secret Origins 80 Page Giant:

Which led to a couple of "lost" 80 page giants (ala that Green Lantern annual):

Those were supposed to have appeared in issue #16 of SUPER-TEAM FAMILY with Supergirl and the Doom Patrol. When that title was cancelled, the story was broken into two and run in SUPERMAN FAMILY. The story was by Gerry Conway and the art was by Arvell Jones and Romeo Tanghal.

Wow, they did reprint the 1961 Secret Origins after all! Thanks Dave! I wonder how I missed that when I was looking for the later annual reprints and new 80 page giants? I think I even used to have the old 80 Page Giant #8, looks very familiar. I had some of the others. Maybe I can find these now and the Byrne DP one I don't have! There's also still a 'Sliver Age' Secret Origins with a Ty Templeton Super Turtle page that's been on my list awhile now. :^)

Every time DC tries to revive the Doom Patrol in a new series, it doesn't sell diddly. (Grant Morrison's run might have been an exception.) They're just not a popular group.
With the new show being popular (or as popular as you can get on a streaming service that itself isn't all that popular), maybe this time round a new series could get up into the top 15 best-selling monthly comics?
(I realize "best-selling" is sort of an oxymoron for monthly comics in 2019, but I can't think of a better phrase.)

I remember reading that the Paul Kupperberg/Steve Lightle series was a hit, but that Lightle couldn't produce monthly at the time. I have to assume the Erik Larsen issues sold too, since he quickly became a big star. Were the Morrison issues really popular or just critically acclaimed?
If the above is true, I find it interesting that the more straight super-hero approach sold better, but the company insists on the quirky approach.

Well, the DP was always quirky in comparison to all other then-existing superhero groups. Morrison's explicit aim was to get superhero comics "out of the Claremont X-MEN mold" or something like that. Which he certainly did, at least for his own series.

In Canada a channel called 'Space' is going to start airing the new Doom Patrol show in April. Looking forward to trying it out even if Cyborg seems a bad fit what with Robotman being a founder and also in the group (did they just need a black hero, why not the guy in the '70s Showcase run?), plus I don't remember who Crazy Jane is, oh well.

I think the revival attempts fail because no one behind the projects seems to be able to "get" the Doom Patrol. The elements are all there...the attempts to "improve" drag it in the opposite direction.

The change in artist could have also hurt the Paul Kupperberg series. The change from Lightle to Larsen was just too drastic. I had a subscription through my LCS, and dropped it a few issues after Larsen took over.
Morrison's series was just too weird for me, and I didn't like any of the team members he added.
JB's series is the only DP series I've cared for since Kupperberg/Lightle.
