At this point, I’ve just stopped reading them and just checking out the art.

When I started playing with ELSEWHEN I found the stories
pouring out of me. When I think of ALPHA FLIGHT, nothing!

Do you think they could still function in ELSEWHEN as supporting
characters or foils for the X-Men; since you’re picking them up a
recognizable point in their history?

I want to have at least Mac and Heather drift thru ELSEWHEN at some point (whatever form it takes), tho it's no longer going to happen in issue 8, as I originally forecast. With the X-Men, the Avengers and the FF (not to mention a swarm of Sentinels), that issue to already crowded enough!

What a great morning read. This along with "issue 8" makes dealing with jet lag much easier. Big smile all day in my forecast.

I’m kinda torn. My plan was to get ROM as it’s a title I’ve long wanted to read. After reading Mantlo’s AF, now I don’t know if I want to spend the money to get it. I love his Micronauts and Hulk, his Spider-Man work is ok, but AF is just BAD. So I don’t know if I’m going to pull the trigger on ROM or not.

ROM is a very good series. Mantlo only seemed to come apart on Alpha Flight.

If you love Mantlo's Micronauts and Hulk, you should be good with ROM.

Most of the stuff I've read of Mantlo's was pretty good.
I have no idea what possessed him to go so far off the
rails with ALPHA FLIGHT.

During the  70s and the early 80s, Mantlo was a pretty good writer. Then about 3-4 issues into ALPHA FLIGHT, he went down hill fast. Almost coincided with the time  JB was leaving  Marvel.

I think it was editor interfere that have played a part in the  AF storytelling.

I will agree with the others that ROM was actually a good read. I don't know that Mantlo's mishandling of ALPHA FLIGHT can be laid primarily at the feet of the editor, though, except that editorial allowed so many bad changes to happen to the characters.

Add me to the chorus of voices praising ROM.
