“Cured” in quotation marks.

I know full well that you would not be interested in a million years but I'd want ALPHA FLIGHT ELSEWHEN even more than X-Men.

No. He “cured” Puck. With Bochs, he established...
...since she now knows Mac for the monster he always was.
Reading that paragraph was like being repeatedly stabbed in the heart. WTF.

One interesting note: on the Bullpen Bulletins pages during the later Mantlo issues (1987 or so), they would have a Pro File in which various staffers/ creators would answer a standardized questionnaire. I wish I could remember which Bullpenner this was, but under the “which person(s) have influenced you the most” question, this staffer answered a few comic book names then Joe Biden and Donald Trump. I wonder how he feels today.

One of the other things Bill Mantlo did with Roger Bochs was to make him constantly refer to himself as a "cripple" and resent his life and disability. Along with later recounting in that Roger had mental problems.
In all his previous appearances, Bochs was an upbeat character who never made much of his disability.

Number One reason I could not go back to Alpha Flight, even if I wanted to: they don't exist anymore. At least, not in any form I recognize.

Bochs was a really likeable character when he was introduced in Alpha Flight 12. There was a reference to his perfect psych profile and how he would never turn against Alpha Flight. And then his joy when Jaxon gets zapped with the feedback, saying how he told him if anyone could find a way to beat Box it would be Mac.
I need to go back and read that issue again. It's been a long time.

Well, I genuinely didn’t know any of that about Bochs’ story post-issue 29. I lasted one issue into the Mantlo run and said “nope”. For a while there he was one of the good guys, anyway...

Rick,
I agree - sort of. The problem is that your "retconning and ignoring" standard is a subjective one. We would, of course, LOVE to see the HORRIFIC mess that has been made of Alpha Flight over the years retconned/ignored in favor of a JB reboot, however, what happens when someone retcons/ignores something you LOVED in favor of creator Hackmeister G. Horribilus?

It doesn't matter if I loved something or not. If a past or current story damages a character, then said story should be retconned and ignored no matter how popular or critically acclaimed said story might be.
