I would love to read your critique for this young hopeful, JB. What advice and guidance would you give him?

Use more photo reference, but donít become trapped by it.

Stop trying to be Neal Adams. You will never succeed.

Relax! Unclamp your hand. Loosen your fingers.

I picked up my copy last night and stayed up way too late poring over it! An
amazing book - it's a chance to experience original art in the size it was drawn.

What an experience!!

Got mine yesterday. Not looked through it yet but did nearly drop it on one of my kittens. You fiend JB!

EDIT: Now I have. Just the inside front cover (and the style sheets at the back) were worth the money alone for the early Alpha Flight drawings. Can you remember when the team shot was from JB? Just prior to first appearances in X-Men? Some interesting little changes with Shaman and Sasquatch.

The first time I read this, I made a point to skip the
contents. I had avoided any lists that showed the contents
before relaese. Knowing it was a collection from across
JB's early career, I wanted to experience this spoiler
free, even though it's a book without any actual story
spoilers! The only thing I knew was the cover - AVENGERS
#186, "The Nights of Wundagore," which was an issue that my
brother had that I had sneaked out of his collection more
than a few times before outright stealing it.

It was the best way to experience the book, which is a
fantastic collection and reminder of the varoety of titles
JB has done.

I hope this is the first in a series Artifact collections
that covers various titles in JB's career.

Good advice, JB - I always look back fondly on your run from CAPTAIN AMERICA... tho' I acknowledge that you've gotten so much better, your work back then was impressive for the time. Inspiration for a generation of artists.

-C!

When I saw the recent panel in your Fan Fic #5 when Storm attacks and Magneto is mostly in shadow in the foreground, I thought "this totally looks like Neal Adams."

I was telling my 11 year old son about Neal Adams' work yesterday, the unfathomable impact it had on everybody and everything. Then I showed him some classic Batman comicbooks and he was like, "wow... Neal Adams was great." Indeed, boy! INDEED!

One of the interesting things in Nealís career is that when he first showed up at DC he played the game. Unlike so many current artists who start unleashing their egos from day one, Neal drew everything on model. His Batman, for instance, may have been super realistic (at least compared to what had gone before), but it was clear that he and Carmine Infantino were drawing the same guy. How they drew was very different, but not what they drew.

Thatís called Being a Professional.
