So does anyone know WHY the panels are being redrawn? Why certain panels are deemed "worthy" while others are not?

Nothing, but Nelson sure "fixed" that.

One reoccuring theme to the redraws seems to be taking JB's tension and extreme reaction; and toning it down into a relaxed non-plused superman.  even the legs have gone from twisted and tense to a very relaxed floating look.

Well, Superman's hair, his right foot, the length of his left thigh, his facial
expression...

As a long-time graphic artist, I sense that Nelson is tracing new pencils or
inking directly from a light box, which can easily distort pencil art unless the
tracer is extremely diligent. Maybe JB knows...

How does JB feel about this?

From JB's lack of input in this thread, I'd say he's being very professional about it.

I'm in the "let's not point fingers at Nelson" camp. We need the full story before making any sort of accessment.

I agree. Frankly, I'm not sure it should be done to any penciler, whether they're of JB's caliber or not. It just doesn't seem professional.

However, I don't know who I blame more: the inker or the editor who lets it happen.

An inker couldn't consistently make wholesale changes, as is being done on Action, without the editor's support.  If the editor didn't order or co-sign on the changes, the inker wouldn't be working on that book for long.

Circumstances change a bit when you're a freelancer who needs money to pay the bills. It's easy to point the finger at an inker who likely, has no control over what he's doing when you've never been in the same situation.

Not really sure what point you're trying to make here.  If you read what I said just above your post, you'll see that I considered the fact that the inker couldn't make such broad changes without editorial support/directive.

And I am a freelance illustrator who has been in the situation of having unconsented changes made to my work, for the record.

Edited to add: Mike, you beat me to the punch!

What I continue to be confused about is - why were none of JB's panels that
were inked by Lerry Strucker redrawn then?
