I still don't knwo Marvel didn't sue over Violet.  Super-fast, super-strong, stretchy - these can be debated.  But "Invisible and makes Force Fields" was the sole bailiwick of Susan Storm (circa FF #20, of course) - until The Incredibles.

Speaking of the Fantastic Four ... I saw this movie
over the weekend ... UGH.

I went into this movie under the best of conditions:

a) After months of either not wanting or not caring to
see it, something in me changed and I was finally
prepared to just have fun with it, take it for what it is
or what everyone had told me it is: Light, enjoyable
fluff.

b) My dad paid my way into the show.

c) The concession stand had a great pop and
popcorn deal. For a mere $3.75 I was snacking and
sipping throughout the entire movie.

Even under these ideal conditions, I could not enjoy
this movie.

First of all, it's just a BAD movie.

Second of all, it was HORRIBLE what they did to Dr.
Doom and Reed Richards. Wrong, wrong, wrong,
WRONG.

I cannot imagine liking this movie either as a movie
fan or an FF fan.

EDITED TO ADD: Sorry for getting off topic here ... but
I felt this might be an okay place to vent my similar
movie-going frustration and really didn't want to start
another thread. F4 truly isn't worth the time or space.

Oh well at least it was better than Finding Nemo...

*****

Can't say I entirely agree with that. If I were to list the Pixar movies in descending order, I'd probably end up with a list something like this. . .

Toy Story 2
Toy Story
A Bug's Life
Monsters Inc.
Finding Nemo

The Incredibles.

At least I didn't get any sense that some of the people working on "Nemo" thought fish were silly.

All the "take it for what it is" isn't going to change that.

****

Frankly, I feel like I'm the one who should be telling people to "take it for what it is". After the praises sung of this movie hereabouts -- from some unexpected corners, in one or two instances -- I began to get the feeling that people were bringing into the theaters with them the kind of movie they wanted this to be, and were determinedly seeing that movie no matter what was on the screen.

And the next person who tells me this movie is not a blatant FF rip-off better duck! The %#$@ ing MOLE MAN even turns up at the end!!

Exaaaactly.  The "differences" don't extend far beneath the surface.  I mean, Dash is a little kid with super speed powers, but for all intents and purposes, he's Johnny Storm, and the Torch's powers do show up in the film when Jack Jack flames on.  I enjoy the movie quite a bit more than you do, but in the end, it is a Fantastic Four pastiche.

I loved the movie .... I thought they did a great job all around and was surprised I liked it as much as I did. Sure they pulled from the FF and other areas, but that didn't bother me at all, it made me like it even more. I loved the Mole Man at the end.

Edit: Now if this were a real FF movie and they did it like this, i would hate it. I would want it to be serious wilth very little comedy.

I'm not sure, given your examples (Elasti-Girl stretching and
Dash's bug problem), why you saw disdain for superheroes in
the movie. I didn't see any disdain. I went in not expecting
anything, and didn't know much about the movie beforehand
(all I had seen was the trailer), and I got almost an opposite
view than your experience. I thought it was fun and expressed
a broad respect and knowledge of the superhero genre. I can't
rank the Pixar movies -- not one of them has disappointed me
in the least. Finding Nemo certainly became more meaningful
to me after the birth of my child, but I couldn't really place any
above the others.

I totally respect your opinion on it, JB, but I really just don't see
where you're coming from on this one. But that's cool.

J.B I was wondering what you thought about the actual animation in The Incredibles?
While I thought some bits were great but for some reason I thought that quite a few scenes the character movments were rather...stiff?

I respect the level of technological craft that went into making the movie, but it was a slap to anyone who takes superhero fiction seriously. And anyone with even a passing familiarity with the FF could recite a list of not-so-incidental similarities fifteen minutes into the movie.

It was only a slap in the face in the same way that Buzz
Lightyear was a slap in the face to action figures and Woody
was a slap in the face to old talking dolls. Which is to say, I don't
think it was one. Seriously, what did they do in the Incredibles
that wasn't done in any of the other Pizar movies? Are Barbie
fans upset that Barbie was the butt of jokes in Toy Story 2? Are
Star Wars fans boycotting the same movie because of the
Blatant Darth Vader Ripoff Villain?
