JB, yes, there is a successful minstrel show within the film; thus it is fictional and not an indication that Spike necessarily believes that a minstrel show would be a hit today in our world.  But it's clear from your original comment that you want to marginalize him as an artist by painting him as a wacko, which is your right.

JB wrote: Mark Twain wrote of and in a specific time and place. His work reflects this. The same cannot be said, in this instance, of Spike Lee.

L:  Yes the same can be said of Spike, which is obvious to someone who has seen most of his films.  That would be me and no one else on this board.

Matt Hawes, after all my huffing and puffing to defend Spike, I have to agree with you.  Bamboozled is filled with instances of overkill and taking things out of context (lying almost) to make a point.  Laurence Fishburne who starred in Spike's "School Daze" (and the two apparently argued constantly) said that he refused a part in "Do The Right Thing" because Spike didn't do enough rewrites on his scripts.  Bamboozled needed a rewrite because the bombast and historical images sabotaged Spike's message.  He should have been more thoughtful and less angry.

So, you know you are the only one that has seen "most" of the professional work of Spike Lee on this board. I somehow doubt this, but won't stop you from having this point of view.

Well, I can at least inform you that, in my case, you are correct. Not sure about the 1400 other people here.

I find with all the Spike Lee movies I've seen that he gets so heavy-handed and over the top with the point he is trying to make that it gets lost in the outrageousness. I had this problem especially with Bamboozled and He Got Game.

Michael, help me with a scientific experiment, please. Have you seen most of Spike Lee's films? According to IMDb, he's directed 38 movies. He's produced 32, with more than a little overlapping. Of his directed movies, he also produced 22 of them. So he's had involvement in 48 separate movies.

My question Michael is this:

Have you seen 25 of his movies? That would indicate a majority which would indicate most. So, have you seen most of his movies?

I was a little surprised I had seen as many as I have. Not because I dislike him or his views. I liked some, didn't like others. Just didn't realize how many of his movies I'd seem.

I've seen seven of them. If we focus on the ones he wrote the screenplay for, that's half! :)

I've seen most of Spike Lee's films. And his commercials, too. They were fun.

It seems the comic (or parts of it) will be available online to check out.
