I don't see it this way.  McCarthy had 203 votes in the first tally. By the sixth tally he had 201 votes.

I’m talking about everything that’s happened between 1/6 and the 2022 election, not the current Speaker vote

Fair enough. Pretty hard to tell that from the context of the thread.

This is like a bad comedy skit where someone's at the blackjack table with 20 in their hand and they keep telling the dealer to "hit me!".... 6 times!

More like a daredevil trying to jump a canyon on a bike six times never accepting it doesn’t have the power to clear the distance.

So are you going to end up with a speaker who is further to the right or
more moderate here?

Is there any way to square this since the majority is so slim & it only needs a
few people to say ‘they are too far right’ or ‘they are too moderate’.

I really don’t see how the Republicans can solve this schism they have got
themselves into.

I’m not understanding what the split is about. Trump is pushing McCarthy
but it’s his loyal MAGA minions that are holding out. Don’t get me wrong,
I’m all for the GOP falling apart, but I just don’t get why it’s happening over
this.

——-

McCarthy is an establishment shitstain, whose GOP foes (correctly) perceive is an opportunist who will cater to the hard-right but not actually follow through on their wackdoodle MAGA demands. The MAGA holdouts are anti-establishment shitstains who want to burn everything down.

The MAGA folk seem oblivious to the fact that Trump is also an opportunist who is out for only himself. So they’ll make excuses when his demands interfere with burning everything down.

It’s clear that the only choice for Speaker that both sides can live with is former POTUS, Medal of Honor winner, civil rights hero, Heisman Trophy and Stanley Cup winner, Nobel Prize in Literature laureate George Santos.

I think it's time for McCarthy to call the election rigged. That'll work, right?

******

According to his personal House website, he voted “nay” on the omnibus
bill which occurred on 12/23 and he’s also somehow already been sworn in.
