"Just in a nearby Barnes & Noble. They had ONE on the shelf—which I stealth signed!"

--

Now that's the ultimate scavenger hunt - collectors getting wind of this and going to various Connecticut B&Ns in your general area in hopes of snagging that one random signed edition.

Coincidentally, it sold while I was still there!

Paul: That is pretty cool! Nice bonus surprise for the reader who will pick that up! I chuckle at an alternate possibility where a fan goes in to pick one up and catches you signing it.
checked my B&N a few times- they initially had a couple but now are long gone.

This made me chuckle about an alternate possibility where a fan goes to pick one up and catches YOU thinking about stealth-signing one, Paul!

Probably there's some kind of decorum around "stealth-signing" these if you don't happen to be John Byrne. But I for one would love to get your signature added to my signed edition-- as well as all the other contributing inkers. This is an amazing project and I'm crazy about it.

Found a former editor speculating that I must have had a behind the scenes “benefactor” paying me for the free publication of ELSEWHEN here in the Forum.

No. I did it for FUN. To borrow an old term, I am independently wealthy. I don’t need “benefactors”.

Blah. Some people will never get the uniqueness of ELSEWHEN. I don't recall anyone writing and drawing a single issue comic well enough for publication, but completely for fun - let alone over 30 of them!

It almost ties into your quote about other writers not being able to write characters more noble than they are. I guess some people can't fathom someone doing all of that work for free, because they'd never do it themselves.

But, at least a surprising amount of outside people DO seem to get it.

That's just hysterical. I can imagine you walking past the customer on the checkout line whispering "you're welcome" and continuing on your merry way.

<<I did it for FUN.>>

I took it as a gift to fans over the pandemic.  It was the highlight of Covid!

Should be noted that he started this over a year and a half before COVID!

I remember the fun and energy around the art drops, as well as the
excitement within the forum, in response to them.

I'm excited to see if the greater online response mirrors what happened on the JBF when we get to the Doctor Doom appearances. Seems likely, right?

I was thinking something similar, except for a certain Dark character in Volume 2. That's when things really start heating* up!

*I meant figuratively at first, but then I remembered......

As hot a character as Doom is right now, they may increase the print run.
