Magneto as a rapist is certainly heating up on Facebook today.

 | The discussion of Wolverine's claws got me thinking about John's gorgeous cover to Wolverine 23 which features an amazing elongated reflection of Geist that comes into view when you turn the cover "just so."  Forgive the OT, but I always wondered how you manipulated that image to produce such a cool effect.

More on topic, today's page is both beautiful to look at and disturbing to think about.  Magneto's face in panel two is particularly striking for some reason.

It’s good to bring purpose to empty lives.

I just don’t understand where that would even come from.

I mean, Magda either ran away with Wanda and Pietro because their father was a monster or because he was a concentration camp survivor with PTSD that needed help.

I'd rather they only had one monstrous parent. |

Are they still Magneto's children? I'm not even sure of that...

Well, the "let me steal a kiss from a sleeping beauty I just knocked out" --  it is a little "Bill Cosby".   It's just a sign of the times we live in.  in the 1970s it's an innocent compliment to her beauty - in a post #metoo world, it's on the creepy side of the line.

I read some of the Facebook stuff.  I didn't understand the big deal until I read that the chief rabble-rouser said he had been banned from here, and is holding onto a bigger-than-life grudge.  What a world.

One of the go-to moves I picked up from the original STAR WARS was Vader throttling the captain of Leia's ship, grabbing him by the neck and lifting him off the floor. Used it several times, since 1977.

 | Over recent years, tho, I have seen some microbrained fanboys referring to it as "sexual strangulation". Probably not what George Lucas had in mind. Nor I. But this is a classic example of a little knowledge being a dangerous thing. Faux "sophisticates" trying to seem much smarter than they are (which is not very). Years ago, they scrawled* letters to the editor which were promptly consigned to the nearest trash can. Today, the internet gives them a world stage. feh ___________________ * Deliberate choice of word. You should have seen some of them!!

Meanwhile.  I finished today's page and for the first time in 45 years of reading comics, said out loud, "Oh **** " |
