Dave did a nice job of capturing my Kitty, but it didn’t take long after for her to turn into Brooke Shields. Straightening her hair was the first step. Then came the aging.

"In this Issue: Jean Grey as Phoenix! Not a Hoax! Not an Imaginary Story! Read what happens in the Bizarre and Mind-Bending Tale, 'VANISHING POINTS!'"

--Even as I write this, it occurs to me how this kind of promotion would only carry a charge in the current iteration of Elsewhen stories-- i.e. in a world where first we saw Phoenix die and then, later, got a version where Phoenix was just lobotomized.

If the original version had been more like Elsewhen, the "return of Phoenix" just wouldn't carry the same charge.

The original version was, of course, meant to play out with Dark Phoenix (still Jean at that point) becoming a recurring villain.

I recall reading that the name change came because Jimmy was "vindicating" having injured Moira in Uncanny #109.

Just Phoenix. Even in B&W the differences are clear. It's the little things.

One of the weird parts about this sudden demand is that the real question should have been: What Makes Better Comics?

As we see in Elsewhen, Lilandra's original punishment leads to far more stories and interesting questions than "Eternal punishment" or "Death"-- whether or not lobotomized-Phoenix "actually" receives the proper amount of justice.

("actually" in quotes because that seems to be the place Shooter is coming from-- some sense that his ideas on the subject are the only realistic ones.)

The appearance of a tidy ending that can tip into more stories is the breath of life in serialized fiction, isn't it?

 | whole thing reads like a movie to me. I am so digging everything going
on, and the sub plots keep me awake to endless possibilities.
 Love it.

I’ve been playing ELSEWHEN more like one continuous piece, like a movie, than like a monthly comic book. Far fewer recaps, for instance. I figure I don’t have to tell you what happened “Previously in ELSEWHEN” since the issues are all there to be checked out.
