Beautiful page.  Wasn't expecting Thor to have back-up.

Makes me wish the Thor Annual that Walter Simonson was cooking up, for JB to draw, came to fruition.

 Edited to fix a typo.

I didn't make the Thor connection at all, so this was a nice surprise! I thought it was Galactus! But looking at the pages again, I'm not sure of WHY I thought it was Galactus, outside of my wanting to see JB draw Galactus / wanting to see the X-Men fight Galactus.

He might be the last Avenger, but damn if he isn't going to do some avenging! What a beautiful page, and LOVE the use of the Simonson-era logo!

What a nice image of Thor on today’s page! Thor seemed like a logical opponent based on the hints from previous pages, but I thought a different adversary was on deck. I’m curious to see what brought Thor to the long abandoned mansion as the story unfolds. Thor obviously called on some friends after we last saw him at Magneto’s base in issue 21.

You think you know about comics history, and then
something like this rears its head.
How did I not know this was a possibility? how on earth
 did it not actually happen?

Next to Jack Kirby... I think JB's Thor is the best.

Oh my god shite. What a STUNNING page! This is what I think of you mean, Mr. Byrne, by "scratching an itch" or "clearing the pipes."

I recall that some Avengers were killed; I don't recall that all of them were killed. But in any case, this is very obviously Asgardian Avengers Assemble! I love the Warriors Three, and especially Volstagg the Voluminous when he ISN'T a quivering coward. So you can imagine that I loved him in "Thor: The Dark World", as a deserving ally to Thor.
This is gonna be SO MUCH FUN! Whether there's a battle or not! |

 | Like RC, I wasn't expecting Thor to come with backup. Yikes!
That triple "THOR!" exclamation is a nice touch.

And the use of the logo from Walt’s run was nice.
