Terrific splash page! Love the composition; love the expression on Nightcrawler's face. You'd better believe he's determined not to be found.

Yeah, it feels like the work of a photojournalist, appropriately enough! A really convincing image of how it would feel to really see Spidey swinging by.

Kurt looks pretty intense here. He's still not cloaked in magical mutant shadow, right? He looks more real than he is usually drawn. |

Wow, I know Nightcrawler is supposed to have blue fur, but I am so used to seeing other artists draw him where he looks like he just has blue skin.  Great page.

I’m not a fan of Kurt being “furry”—after all, Marvel already had a blue and furry character—but I also feel I have to stick (mostly) with things that were established before my time on the book.

 | Drawing him as if he just has blue skin makes it even more pointless—and that was already covered (in more ways than one) by a full-body costume.

If only there were huge shadows in which Kurt could hide!

Love the tail curled around Kurt's leg...

 | ••• Altho that was a concept introduced before I came aboard, I can assure you it’s not something you’ll be seeing in ELSEWHEN. Heck, even Marvel got rid of it! (And Chris never did give me a satisfactory answer to the first question I asked when he told me about Kurt’s shadow/invisibility schtick: “Does that mean he’s invisible at night?”)

Page 1 of this issue reminds me a bit of page 1 from issue 17. If Nightcrawler can elude Spider-Man that makes him some kind of tag champion. No easy feat at all.

About Nightcrawler's invisibility: Was that Chris Claremont's idea, or something Dave Cockrum came up with?

But of course Nightcrawler! Kurt is such an imagination stirring character, and this storyline is going to be great as ELSEWHEN continues!

And how I wish you were doing a regular Spider-Man strip. Your understanding of how he looks and acts is nothing less than magical. Are we SURE he's a non-mutant variant? Maybe just a little bit mutant...? :D |
