As wonderful as this experience is, it is criminal that these stories are not being formally published - inked & coloured. Not just for we eager, fortunate 'virtual-readers' - but also for an audience out there that is being denied them.
I gather the original notion was to reprint Phoenix: The Untold Story as Issue Zero and go from there. I've just re-read that same tale. As powerful and dramatic as Jean's 'death' was when #137 was first read back in 1980, its impact has been severely diluted with her eventual resurrection and everything since. There used to be a joke about Marvel - "nobody ever stays dead - except Bucky" - and even that punchline is now denied us.
The 'original' ending to the Dark Phoenix saga - which had Jean 'adjusted' by the Shi'ar - and how the team deals with the consequences - is a far more interesting premise. The final panel of the penultimate page of 'The Untold Story' sets this up suberbly. The hatred on Scott's face is tangible. This 'series' is a God-send.

I agree - how Jean would deal with it has been on my mind for a while.  In fact, even how Charles and Lilandra would be together is interesting too...Can’t be back to being a couple like nothing happened (or could it)?

Not knocking the published version which had tremendous impact of course, but it is interesting if it had gone this way too...

As strange as it may seem, this could be the best work of JB's career!
Next to JBNM, that is. ;-)

Today's last panel with Storm and Moira has a lot of impact - you know just where to put your "camera," JB!

Thanks for noticing, Tim. When I'm laying out a panel I tend to do a quick 360º around the center point, making sure the angle I choose is best for both clarity and "drama".

JB, is that a shadowy figure in the foreground of panel 3?  If so, I think I know who it is.

Well, not the Mimic. He’s too hard to draw properly without him looking goofy!
