FF#243 and #260 were the only 2 issues out of JB's run that I owned when I was a kid (I was on an X-Men kick back then, when they were "underground", and books like FF were too "mainstream" for me). I had traded other comics for those two, because they were just too cool to pass up!(And man, remember when kids _traded_ comics? That probably went out with the speculator boom in the '90s).

I think the issue of Eightball I picked did just that. --- Definitely! It's a very funny story; plus it tells the story in a way that's unique to the comic form! I've heard people say that movies can do anything you can do in a comic but I think much of Clowes's work argues against that. And the Batman & Captain American comic is one of the best superhero comics you're going to find! An absolute favorite of mine.

The Stern/Byrne Cap run is just amazing. Every issue is just perfect. I want to live in a parallel universe where they did a 100-issue run on that title.

I would define "Favorite Single Issue" strictly as a single, done-in-one issue. I wouldn't consider the final chapter in an ongoing storyline as a "single issue" as much of the emotional pay-off is based on having read previous stories.
So (by character):
1) Superman: I like "The Death of Superman" but Superman dies! I would nominate the wild card "Superman Under a Green Sun" as it so defines who Superman is.
2) Batman: "The Joker's 5-Way Revenge." This shows us a Batman who is both infallible (when the thug tries unsuccessfully to lose him) and fallible (the same thug catches him flatfooted and knocks him out)and a homicidal but very sane Joker (his plan is basic vengeance -- no Ceser Romero over-the-topness).
