WAAA HOOO!!! This piece is SUPERB, and I can hardly wait to see it in person!!!

Thank you very much John for another incredible commission. You exceeded all of my expectations with this cover reinterpretation, and then some!

Best...

Next time, why don't you draw the "corrected" version of what you find wrong with it and post it for our illumination.

I thought I did that when I posted the other picture of Storm  . . .

I apologize if I was rude to JB and the owner of the piece.  I appreciate whatever John posts here.  I am a fan of his art.  I wouldn't be here otherwise.  I do think the forum is more interesting when more something other than "this commision is the best" or "WoW!  Incredible!"  With the bluntness of some member's opinions on other topics, it would seem some critque would be acceptable here.

JB-thanks for posting your initial attempt at this piece.  To offer praise, Colossus, Wolverine, Nightcrawler, Iron Fist, AND Storm look great. I particularily like your rendering of Colossus' muscles. Hopefulley, someone with more money than myself will pay you to finish it.

Oh, and the physics of JB's sketch -- IF's upward punch and C being hurled up and back -- work better than in the original.

****

Just off the top of my head, Joe Kubert is the only artist I can think of who has not made that particular mistake. There may be others, but it's a very, very common goof. Meself, I usually have the frustration of not realizing I've done it until I see the published work. (I seem to recall there's one in BAT/CAP, and one in TRUE BRIT. Alas, I know there are others!)

Well, physical laws pale before pictorial impact, not to mention the rush of the creative afflatus.

Too right - it appears that you can insult any group or groups that you care to - as long as you don't think that JB's latest commission isn't the best thing that he has ever done..!

...how can you place someone on ignore?

****

Click on "IGNORE" under their post(s), Ari.

****

Heh, I just noticed that there are some posters that cannot be ignored in that sense.

That ignore feature is pretty cool. I've just put two in it and BAM I'll never have to scan their post again... now if I could find that feature in the real world!

Wayne- I couldn't agree more with your comments in this thread. This is a fan site after all!

Like I said before, feel free to disagree on any topic here - but the art critiques really bug me. Next time, why don't you draw the "corrected" version of what you find wrong with it and post it for our illumination.

You don't have to be a better artist than someone else to critique his work anymore than you need to be a better director to criticize a movie or a better guitarist to criticize an album. Sometimes you'll agree with the critics, sometimes not, and sometimes the critic will be completely off-base, but the critic's own abilities shouldn't even be a factor in a discussion like this.

I thought this one looked pretty sharp, though, for what it's worth.

"I thought I did that when I posted the other picture of Storm . . ."

Nope, not even close. The Storm you posted featured a standing
pose. The Storm you complained about was flying inside and had
different rules of perspective. But I do appreciate your apology.

"Too right - it appears that you can insult any group or groups that you
care to - as long as you don't think that JB's latest commission isn't the
best thing that he has ever done..!"

Reading all the words of my posts usually helps to convey the entire
meaning, not just the parts you want to use to make a "snappy
comeback". I was specific in saying anyone can complain/disagree with
whatever they want to here (said it twice in fact). Bashing John's art and
someone else's commission strikes me personally as rude. This is one of
the few times that I think you should follow the old "if you can't say
anything nice, don't say anything at all" rule on this forum. Unless of
course, you can draw it better yourself - then feel free to post your
critique along with your drawing that fixes all of the mistakes.
