Overnight summer camp in Maine, 1978.  A few kids had brought comic books and as the dog days dragged on over the next month, those comics became valuable commodities to pass the time during afternoon breaks.  My brother mailed me a couple old Supermans including one with Solomon Grundy that made the rounds but the most popular comic by far that June (the one everyone wanted to read and talk about) was one featuring a weird group of mutants fighting Magneto in a volcano.  When I finally got my chance I was blown away.  I didn't see that comic again (or the ones preceding / following it) until I got my own copies of 'em all 5 or 6 years later.   The anticipation of re-reading that magical comic and the follow-ups was palpable and did not disappoint!   Some youthful memories don't hold up but that one sure did.

I have that same feeling of anticipation right now 41 years later.  Thanks John!

Thanks for this JB. I remember when I was young looking forward to the daily comic strips in the evening paper, so this will be a double dose of nostalgia in a sense.

I overlooked this thread earlier,  since I am not used to the fanfic board being active.  Oh course, it's the more appropriate place, though it feels weird to call anything by a veteran professional comics artist "fanfic."

Thanks for sharing these pages with us, JB. I look forward to seeing them as they are put on the site.
